While attending West Milford High School, John played football and ran track. At Ithaca College, John was a varsity letter winner in track, participating for four years, and also played one year of football. He is an avid runner, having completed 19 marathons—including Hatfield McCoy, Marshall, Athens (Ohio), Jersey City, and Atlantic City—with plans to run more. As an undergraduate at Ithaca College, John broadcast on both television and radio and wrote for the school newspaper.
